What is the DEAR-initiative?
The DEAR initiative is a pilot project of Connecting Hands & Belink Academy with which we scout and train talented newcomers with a refugee background to act as role models for other people with similar backgrounds who have not yet found their place in the Dutch society yet. For example, project participants are coached to become socially and economically active by learning from people who have overcome comparable challenges to integrate in our society.

What makes the DEAR-initiative unique?
Our project distinguishes itself from other projects through its personal approach to mentor newcomers with the help of role models who can share their own experiences of what it is like to integrate in the Twente region.

What is the purpose of the DEAR-initiative?
By training newcomers, with the help of role models, we hope that these newcomers become socially and economically active in turn, and may then be able to contribute to the the project by becoming role models themselves and contribute to the DEAR initiative as a coach. As soon as this self-help mechanism can be expanded further, more and more newcomers will be supported by role models, so that newcomers on a large scale find their desirable place in Dutch society.

Wat houdt het DEAR-initiatief in?
Het DEAR-initiatief is een pilotproject van Connecting Hands & Belink Academy dat talentvolle nieuwkomers met een vluchtelingenachtergrond scout en traint om als rolmodel te fungeren voor andere mensen met een vergelijkbare achtergrond die nog niet hun plek hebben gevonden in de Nederlandse maatschappij. Zo worden projectdeelnemers gecoacht om sociaal en economisch actief te worden door te leren van de mensen die hetzelfde hebben meegemaakt en uitdagingen hebben overwonnen.

Wat maakt het DEAR-initiatief uniek?
Ons project onderscheidt zich van andere projecten door de persoonlijke benadering om nieuwkomers te begeleiden met de hulp van rolmodellen die kunnen vertellen over hun eigen ervaringen hoe het is om te integreren in de regio Twente.

Wat is het doel van het DEAR-initiatief?
Door nieuwkomers te trainen aan de hand van rolmodellen hopen wij dat de projectdeelnemers op hun beurt ook sociaal en economisch actief worden en daarna mogelijk kunnen bijdragen aan de impact van het project door zelf door te groeien tot rolmodel en als coach bij te dragen aan het DEAR-initiatief. Zodra dit zelfhulpmechanisme verder kan worden uitgebreid, zullen steeds meer nieuwkomers worden ondersteund door rolmodellen waardoor nieuwkomers op grote schaal worden gecoacht bij het vinden van hun juiste plek in de Nederlandse maatschappij.
